Mr Mario Petrou is a Consultant Cardiac Surgeon at The Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals, London. He is the Clinical Director for Cardiovascular Services at The Royal Brompton Hospital. Mr Petrou offers the full repertoire of adult cardiac surgery and has over 20 years’ experience. This includes complex aortic surgery, the Ross operation, aortic, mitral, and tricuspid valve repair techniques, AF ablation surgery (Cox-Maze IV), aortic aneurysm repair, Marfan disease surgery, the PEARS procedure, complex re-do surgeries and coronary artery bypass surgery (on and off pump). He also has a background of experience of treating patients with cardiac failure (transplantation and mechanical assist devices).

He has consistently performed to a high level throughout his career as shown by his excellent surgeon-specific mortality and outcome results. He places great emphasis on pre-operative assessment, meticulous technical surgery, and assiduous post- operative care, and believes that all three components are essential to obtain the best results for patients. Having worked with some world-renowned heart surgeons including, Professor Sir Magdi Yacoub , Mr Petrou's career has been influenced by some of the best in the field of Cardiothoracic Surgery.
